#VaxUpWestchester Work Continues in Greenburgh and Beyond.

GREENBURGH, NY__ With a goal nationwide of 70% of the eligible population vaccinated by July 4, the #VaxUpWestchester initiative is making inroads to make sure we get there locally.

#VaxUpWestchester, a grassroots effort run by volunteers and the Town of Greenburgh, is funded by grants from UJA-Federation of New York and the Westchester Community Foundation - A Division of New York Community Trust. #VUW targets lower Westchester zip codes with the lowest vaccination rates and partners with trusted leaders to disseminate educational materials and directly engage residents with boots on the ground, in addition tohosting or facilitating vaccination, appointment and informational popups at various locations from churches to food pantries.

An upcoming opportunities welcoming walk-in today

On Friday, June 25 from 2 - 5 pm, The White Plains Islamic Center in the Galleria Mall will feature Pfizer shots from our vaccination partner Empress EMS. The Pfizer vaccine is available for anyone ages 12+. Volunteers will also be on hand to answer questions and provide information. The Islamic Center is located inside the Galleria Mall, at 100 Main St, White Plains.

At Greenburgh’s Theodore D. Young Community Center, a group of teenagers employed through this #VUW grant-funding have been diligently calling their way through resident lists of unincorporated Greenburgh. They are conducting a vaccination survey and connect people with appointment assistance as needed. At last week’s Town Council meeting, the board honored the efforts of one outstanding teen in the group, who has directly helped citizens get vaccinated. “When they do answer I want to make sure they are interacting with us, so they aren’t feeling concerned and worried,” said Washington-Tolbert, a Mercy student in psych-education.

“We are fortunate in Greenburgh to have a hero like you,” Supervisor Paul Feiner said. “You are a tremendous asset to our community.”
