Greenburgh Insider: Greenburgh to honor 2 COVID ANGEL leaders at Pride Ceremony.

Greenburgh to recognize two Covid Angel organizers whose efforts saved lives during Pride flag raising ceremony on June 23rd. We plan to recognize members of the LGBTQ community annually.

GREENBURGH TO HONOR  TWO COVID ANGEL LEADERS AT PRIDE MONTH CEREMONY.

Progress Flag Raising Set for Wed. June 23, 6 pm at Town Hall.

STARTING A NEW TRADITION HONORING LGBTQ LEADERS.

Greenburgh’s new rainbow Pride flags are now hanging at three key locations through June: the library, Anthony F. Veteran Park in Hartsdale, and Town Hall. The Town will officially mark this month of LGBTQ+ awareness and celebration with a public event outside Town Hall on Wednesday, June 23, at 6 p.m., when they will replace one rainbow flag with a new “Progress” flag, a redesign from 2018 representing further inclusion for transgender individuals and communities of color.

Supervisor Paul Feiner and other leaders will honor two outstanding contributors to the Covid Angels volunteer initiative, Laken Masterson and Mary Kathryn “MK” Blazek. Laken served on the Executive Committee essential to getting hundreds of volunteers organized quickly and effectively to start assisting Greenburgh’s seniors and most vulnerable citizens with vaccine appointments in late January. MK was the amazing data guru of this effort, establishing a scalable intake and tracking system for the thousands of citizens they were connecting to, which became a model for other grassroots groups around the country.

Starting a new tradition this year with MK and Laken, the Town plans to honor LGBTQ+ members of our community each year in a similar event. If you would like to nominate someone, please contact kmadsen@greenburghny.com

Following this event, the first-ever Greenburgh Pride Rally will be held in Tarrytown’s Patriot’s Park on Saturday, June 26 from 3 to 5:30 p.m. with local speakers, live music and performances and giveaways, hosted by the Greenburgh Human Rights Advisory Committee and LGBTQ+ Subcommittee.

Paul Feiner

Greenburgh Town Supervisor
