Greetings!
Earlier this week my colleagues and I sent a letter to Inspector General, Liam McLaughlin, regarding some allegations involving Council President Khader that was brought to our attention. Several members of the community have asked me for more details about this matter.
As mentioned in the letter to the IG, “The first matter concerns whether the relationship between Mr. Khader and his legal counsel, Jeffrey Buss, as well as that of Mr. Buss’s firm, Smith Buss & Jacobs LLP, complies with the Ethics Code of the City of Yonkers, as well as any and all applicable City and State laws. The second matter is in regard to an ex-employee’s comments to Mr. Khader, regarding whether a hostile work environment existed and/or continues to exist in the Office of the City Council President.”
Please note that these are serious matters and I would not have agreed to investigate these issues if they were not serious. Additionally, IG Mclaughlin will not personally handle the investigation in an effort to avoid any conflict of interest. An outside investigative firm will look into these two allegations and report to the City Council and IG’s office. Our Council President has publicly stated that he will cooperate with the investigation which is the right thing to do and so I commend him for that.
On another note, the City Council is almost at the end of our Budget Hearing Process and so we will host our 2nd Public Hearing on the Budget on Monday, May 24th at 7pm at Saunders High School. Please come to Saunders High if you have any comments you would like to share regarding the proposed FY 2022 budget.
Have a lovely weekend!
Warm Regards,
Shanae
