Mayor Releases Statement on NYC DOE Replacement of Columbus Day.
I'm calling on New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio to direct his New York City Department of Education to reverse their thoughtless and insensitive decision to eliminate Columbus Day from the school calendar.

Taking Columbus Day away and replacing it with Italian Heritage and Indigenous Peoples' Day is an outright insult.

I agree there should be an Indigenous Peoples' Day, but not the same day when Americans celebrates Italian heritage.
