LEG. ALVARADO DISTRIBUTES HOT MEALS ON MOTHER'S DAY WEEKEND.

Local Leaders, Institutions and Volunteer Brighten the Day of 700 Seniors.

 

White Plains, NY —  Legislator Jose Alvarado (D-Yonkers) joined Yonkers City Council Majority Leader Corazon Pineda Isaac, the Yonkers South Broadway Business Improvement District and its Executive Director Jessica Gordon and the Yonkers Hispanic Cultural Foundation, Inc. in distributing 700 hot meals to seniors in honor of Mother's Day on Friday and Saturday, May 7 and 8.

 

The sponsors were joined by volunteers, including members of the Yonkers Fire Department.

 

Leg. Alvarado said, "It was such an uplifting and humbling experience to be able to deliver hot meals to seniors in our community.  We are all at our best, and our community is stronger, when we are able to support one another. That is especially the case now, during the COVID pandemic, when so many of our seniors may face financial challenges and social isolation, having difficulty getting out and staying connected.  I would like to thank all of the volunteers who joined us to brighten people's day this Mother's Day weekend. And I'll like to extend particular thanks to Yonkers Fire Department Captain Danny Alicea for all his help."

 

After the meal distribution, volunteers joined others at the Mom Zen Den event at Lincoln Memorial Park where here was music, kids crafts, heart health screening and information, lunch at no expense or effort for moms and the opportunity to take pictures with two of our finest Yonkers firefighters.

 

The Lincoln Park event was held in collaboration with the Yonkers South Broadway BID, St. Joseph’s Medical Center, the Yonkers YWCA, and Fidelis Care.
