Here’s what we’re reading this week:
Federal and State Officials Work to Set 30x30 Goal
There has recently been a push to protect 30% of our lands by 2030. Nationally, the Biden Administration committed to this goal in January and legislation at the state level would codify the goal.
Get the Facts on the Environmental and Public Health Benefits of EVs
Going electric is one of the best ways New Yorkers can fight climate change. As part of our public awareness campaign on electric vehicles, #PlugItInNY, we released a fact sheet on the environmental and public health benefits of EV adoption.
The State Senate passed a package of bills in honor of Earth Day which will encourage a transition to clean transportation, reduce waste, increase renewable energy, and protect our public lands. Adopting these bills will result in less pollution, better air and water quality, and fewer environmental contaminants. (EIN News)
A former mine in the Adirondack Park will soon become a solar power farm that will generate renewable energy while creating green jobs. This is the first project under the state's Build-Ready program to enter into a lease-option agreement. Building more renewable energy projects is one of our top priorities and we helped pass landmark legislation that simplified the permitting process for these projects. (Solar Power World)
The New York City Council voted to make the Open Streets program permanent and to increase its funding after passing legislation by Council Member Carlina Rivera. We support Open Streets because prioritizing the streetscape for families helps encourage New Yorkers to take mass transit and improves air quality. (WCBS)
