Greenburgh Insider: Con Ed Vs. Sustainable Westchester- rates and programs.

Con Ed and Sustainable Westchester

Greenburgh and 26 other localities in Westchester have been participating in Sustainable Westchester's ESCO.  The Sustainable Westchester rates are fixed for the terms of the contract - can't go up or down. Con Ed rates fluctuate. At times their rates could be higher or lower than the ESCOs. If you want to compare rates you can click directly to the Con Ed block on that page via this link:

Greenburgh and most communities in Westchester that have signed up participate in the Westchester power green energy program through Sustainable Westchester.  It's slightly more expensive than the basic ESCO but it's good for the health of our planet. For much of the last year Con Ed rates have been lower than Sustainable Westchester's. But, with the closing of Indian Point - it's possible that Con Ed rates could soon be higher.   Residents can visit that link for updated information on the reference Con Ed rates, find additional information on the site, and of course can email/call Sustainable Westchester with any questions they may have  or to opt-out, opt-in or change supply (westchesterpower@sustainablewestchester.org.   /914-242-4725).  If you have questions please call 914-242-4725.

We have been working with Sustainable Westchester on  other initiatives including efforts to promote community solar which will provide residents who participate with up to 10% savings on electric bills with no  solar installations on your property and no cost to join on cancellation fee. Sustainable Westchester also offers programs to residents who are interested in having energy smart homes. They also are helping municipalities go green by participating in electric vehicle EV initiatives. Last week I mentioned their GRID REWARDS program -a free app that connects to your Con Ed energy usage and tells you when and how to reduce your energy. Con Ed actually pays you to reduce electricity at peak demand times.

Remember, if you don't want to participate in the ESCO you don't have to. Call the number above and opt out. Or continue with the program and be a part of our efforts to help our planet.
