Yonkers Insider: New York League of Conservation Voters: Environmental News for April 12th.
Here’s what we’re reading this week:
New York Passes a Pro-Environment State Budget
The State Legislature passed a budget last week that includes several of our priorities such as a $3 billion Environmental Bond Act, a fully-funded Environmental Protection Fund, and investments in clean transportation and green jobs.
In an effort to reduce emissions from transportation as well as better the lives of New Yorkers, Transportation Alternatives founded the NYC 25x25 coalition, which NYLCV is a part of. The coalition is urging the City to give back 25% of NYC street space to the people by 2025.
Our president Julie Tighe joined Spectrum News to discuss why the Environmental Bond Act and President Biden's American Jobs Plan will combat climate change, improve water infrastructure, and create green jobs. (Spectrum News)
Bethlehem residents in the Capital Region will have the chance to vote to begin a transition to electric school buses, which would improve air quality and children's health. NYLCV supports the measure. We have been conducting a public awareness campaign, Clean Buses for Healthy Niños, on the benefits of electric school buses. (Albany Times Union)
In an editorial, the Buffalo News supports the State's proposal to study the use of wind turbines in the Great Lakes. Renewable energy helps reduce emissions and combat climate change. (Buffalo News)
Coming Up: Our president Julie Tighe will speak at the Symposium on Energy in the 21st Century on April 16th, which is organized annually by NYLCV board member Rhea Jezer. This year's symposium will focus on clean transportation. Click for more info or to register.
