President Biden unveiled a $2 trillion economic recovery proposal, the American Jobs Plan, that would invest in fighting climate change and building green infrastructure. NYLCV is part of a national coalition that is supporting this plan as the investments in New York would bring about many environmental benefits including transportation infrastructure, building out the electric vehicle market, shoring up crumbling water infrastructure and eliminating all lead pipes and service lines, and achieving 100% carbon-free electricity by 2035. Part of President Biden's plan to increase offshore wind power across the country and reach a goal of 30 gigawatts of wind power by 2030, the U.S. Department of Interior will designate a new Wind Energy Area in the NY Bight, which NYLCV and partners have been advocating for. The plan will combat climate change, create green jobs, and grow the emerging renewable energy industry on Long Island. (Innovate LI)

After months of delay by the previous Administration, the U.S. Department of Transportation will allow congestion pricing in New York, which will help reduce transportation emissions and help fund mass transit, to proceed with an environmental assessment. This is a significant step towards implementing a program that other states can follow. (WNBC)

Coming Up: Our president Julie Tighe will speak at the Symposium on Energy in the 21st Century on April 16th, which is organized annually by NYLCV board member Rhea Jezer. This year's symposium will focus on clean transportation. Click for more info or to register.
