YONKERS CITY COUNCIL DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE IN DISTRICT 6, STELLA SCHWUCHOW, ADVOCATES TO SAVE JFK MARINA. YONKERS, NY – Earlier this year, the Hudson River Community Association (HRCA), the River Communities Coalition of Yonkers (RCCY), Friends of Trevor Park (FoTP), and the Yonkers Committee for Smart Development (YCSD) joined together in opposing the City of Yonkers’ plan to allow The Lela Goren Group, a private developer, to build their parking facility in JFK Marina. Stella Schwuchow, a life-long community advocate and candidate running for Yonkers City Council in District 6, agrees with these community organizations and believes eliminating greenspaces in any community is not the answer. “The JFK Marina serves as a space for community building, not only to the residents that live in the immediate area, but many neighbors across Yonkers,” stated Stella. “I have so many wonderful memories taking pictures and watching sunsets at the Marina. It doesn't matter that the Marina is not located in my Council District; it’s important because it affects families in the 6th. My constituents who live at Riveredge on David Lane, utilize the JFK Marina daily and this is one of the only accessible waterfront areas in all of Yonkers!” The Lela Goren Group is developing “The Plant,” formerly known as the Glenwood Powerplant where there is currently limited parking. As one of the fastest growing cities in New York, we need to preserve and expand parks. Stella stated, “As a member of the Yonkers community, I support smart development, but it should never be a detriment to the quality of life in our community.
