Westchester Insider: Westchester County Receives $50,000 Grant.

 

WESTCHESTER COUNTY RECEIVES $50,000 GRANT.

Funds will go toward Cyber Security.

 

(White Plains, NY) – Westchester County has been awarded $50,000 dollars in federal funds by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and State Homeland Security Grant Program under the FY 2019 Cyber Security Grant Program.

 

The money is administered by the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services.

 

The funding is provided to enhance and sustain Westchester County’s footing while maintaining County information systems are secured and protected from cyber incidents.

 

Westchester County Executive George Latimer said: “This money will help purchase equipment, provide training and exercises and boost planning projects for Westchester County. We want to ensure to the people living and visiting Westchester County that we are prepared, trained and aware of all the fundamental procedures of cyber security.”  

 

Chief Information Officer Marguerite Beirne said: “The Department of Information Technology will be using this grant to think outside the box and develop forward thinking solutions and approaches to cyber security. We are appreciative of this additional funding that will help us to accelerate adoption of new technologies.”

 

Beirne also relayed how the money will be allocated, with $40,000 going toward security and awareness training to support and maintain Cloud technology and associated security risks.

 

Ten thousand dollars will go toward equipment, Beirne said, adding the solution being procured will integrate with and enhance cyber security products already in place in the County.

 

The performance period for the award is April 1, 2021 through August 31, 2022.
