Greenburgh Insider: Would you like $200? Join Con Ed's GridRewards program by April 30th.

Reduce your carbon footprint and get paid an average of $200 by Con Ed.

Would you like $200? Join Con Ed's GridRewards program BY APRIL 30TH.
The numerous sustainable initiatives that Town residents continually implement to be green and curb energy consumption is appreciated. Residents have installed solar panels, utilized geothermal heating and cooling, installed native plantings, established rain gardens, etc. From an energy perspective, I want residents to be aware of a great program that can assist in maintaining overall energy resiliency, help avoid power outages, and that can earn residents cash rewards. This free program, offered through Sustainable Westchester, offers residents the ability to reduce their carbon footprint by taking action on about 5 really hot summer afternoons. In addition, ConEd pays each resident who reduces electricity during these peak times an average of $200.
To qualify this summer, download the GridRewards app on your phone and connect the app to your online Con Edison account by 4/30/21.
Once you sign up, GridRewards will text you between 2 and 21 hours before an event to let you know when energy is peaking on the grid. The app provides a list of energy savings actions. Three of the most impactful actions you can take during these selected summer afternoons (an event of 2 to 6 hours) include:
1.  Turning up your thermostat by 5 degrees or more and not turning on your fan during the event;
2.  Delay running major appliances such as dishwashers, washing machines, dryers and electric ovens until after the event; and
3.  Not charging any electric vehicles during the event.
To learn more or to sign up visit <https://sustainablewestchester.org/gridrewards/> https://sustainablewestchester.org/gridrewards/ or see attached GridRewards step-by-step instructions. For additional help you can call the help line at 908-517-3730.
Additionally, you can help the Town of Greenburgh get a $5,000 grant to be used for sustainability programs if 10 residents sign up for the GridRewards program no later than 4/30/21.
