From The Desk Of Yonkers Newswire Editor Brian Harrod: LAWSUIT SETTLED: The Yonkers Police Department Settles For $175,000 For Violating Muslim Woman's Civil Rights.

 

YONKERS: The Yonkers City Council voted to accept a settlement in the amount of $175,000 in the case of #IhsanMalkawi, for damages for damages while in #YonkersPD custody. In 2019, Mrs. Malkawi had her Hijab forcibly removed and then sued for a violation of her religious rights protected by the United State's constitution. Mrs. Malkawi was brought in for questioning by the #YPD regarding claims of abuse by their daughter. Those claims were proven false and later withdrawn, but for 36 hours she was held by the #YonkersPolice. The justices allowed Mrs. Malkawai also made a court appearance with the Hijab.the YPD officers denied her request to keep her Hijab on.
