Clean Fuels Standards Move Forward Across North America
Clean fuel standards (CFS), an important tool for reducing transportation emissions, are on the march across North America. NYLCV strongly encourages our State Legislature to enact a New York Clean Fuel Standard in the 2021 legislative session.
Poor air quality due to emissions from cars is putting Staten Islanders at greater risk of respiratory illnesses like asthma. Environmental advocates, including NYLCV, are pushing for stronger policies to combat climate change and slash air pollution. (Staten Island Advance)
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, roughly 10,000 children with elevated levels of lead in their blood may have gone undetected during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic due to delayed lead removal efforts, disrupted screenings, and children being stuck at home where there's higher risk of lead exposure. NYLCV is advocating for stronger lead prevention regulations and better enforcement. (New York Times)
In an op-ed, our partners at Citizens Campaign for the Environment urge the State to pass extended producer responsibility for packaging legislation that would hold manufacturers accountable for the waste they produce and reduce the burden on municipal governments. We recently held a webinar on EPR, one of our top priorities because it helps decrease emissions from the waste sector.(Buffalo News)
