NYLCVEF Launches Electric Vehicle Education Campaign
As part of our new public awareness campaign on EVs, Plug It In, NY, we released the first of a series of fact sheets to encourage New Yorkers to make an EV their next vehicle. This first fact sheet dispels myths about charging range which many associate with EVs, known as range anxiety.
New York Named A Top Ten State for Electrification
The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy recently released the State Transportation Electrification Scorecard research report, which named New York as one of the top 10 states for our policy and program efforts to electrify transportation.
The Delaware River Basin Commission voted to permanently ban natural gas drilling and fracking near the river, asserting that gas development poses an unacceptable risk. The watershed provides drinking water for 13 million people, including 50% of NYC, and its tailwaters are some of New York's outdoor recreational gems. NYLCVEF works with local NY-based organizations to advocate for and raise awareness about the importance of protecting the Upper Delaware River Watershed of New York State. (ABC News)
The Fund for Lake George is leading an effort to reduce road salt by using a salt brine, which saves municipalities money and protects drinking water, and is encouraging other local governments to do the same. NYLCV supported legislation last year to create an Adirondack Road Salt Task Force that is charged with reviewing road salt use and road salt contamination in the Adirondacks and issuing recommendations for reducing contamination. In a letter-to-the-editor, the recycling coordinator for Ulster County supports passing extended producer responsibility (EPR) legislation for packaging, which is one of NYLCV's top priorities because manufacturers are held accountable for the waste they produce and municipalities are not overburdened with the costs of recycling.
