Partnership between Westchester County and ArtsWestchester supports individual artists and cultural organizations and promotes economic development.
Westchester County Executive George Latimer and the Westchester County Board of Legislators has joined with ArtsWestchester to announce the availability of a total of $85,000 in funding to support community-based artists and grassroots arts organizations in the cities of Yonkers and Mount Vernon. Westchester artists and nonprofit cultural organizations are invited to apply for support for arts programs planned for 2021-2022 through ArtsWestchester’s Yonkers and Mount Vernon Arts Initiative grant programs. Awarded annually, these grants are specifically designed to increase residents’ access to the arts and to help local artists and nonprofit arts & cultural organizations in these two cities create new work, build capacity and contribute to community-building and economic development efforts.
Previously funded events in Mount Vernon include PJS Jazz concerts held at The First Presbyterian Church, and a virtual dance series for movers of all skill levels, led by Ariel Harper. Previously funded events in Yonkers include free arts workshops at Urban Studio Unbound, and a public art project led by Haifa Bint-Kadi, during which the artist filled unsightly sidewalk cracks with colorful mosaic tiles.
Applicants are encouraged to attend an online information session on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at 2PM to see if this opportunity is right for you (Register Here).
The deadline for submissions for both the Yonkers Arts Initiative and the Mount Vernon Arts Initiative is Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at 11:59pm. Applications will be accepted online via Submittable, click here to apply.
