February is nationally recognized as Black History Month, a time of recognition and celebration of the monumental achievements made by African Americans throughout the course of American history. Despite the blatant effects of racism, as well as political and social unrest that we have endured, the African American story has continuously thrived. Since the conception of this nation, African Americans have been amongst the forefront leaders in shaping our country. This year, the theme for Black History Month is "Black Family: Representation, Identity and Diversity", honoring the legacies of all African American families throughout the United States.
There will be many events taking place in our city to celebrate Black History Month, and I will provide flyers for many of the events down below, ranging from potlucks, spoken word events, dances, etc. |
