President Biden Signs Pro-Environment Executive Orders
During his campaign, President Biden made a commitment to the environment, including a promise that one of his first actions as president would be to rejoin the Paris Climate Agreement. Not only did President Biden keep this promise, he also signed a host of other executive orders on the same day, just a week after his inauguration.
Farms and agriculture play an important role in fighting climate change and we discussed their role during our recent policy forum. As part of the state's Climate Resilient Farming Grant Program, 80 farms in NY received $4 million in grants to reduce their environmental footprints and improve resiliency. The projects will reduce 90,000 metric tons of emissions per year, equivalent to taking 20,000 cars off the road. (Albany Times Union)
The tidewaters of the Upper Delaware River are threatened by erosion and invasive species. The Alliance for the Upper Delaware River, which NYLCVEF helped found, is working to increase awareness of the need to protect the tidewaters of the Delaware River. (Delaware Currents)
The northern Bronx, a region with several subway deserts, was chosen as the first phase of New York City’s new shared e-scooter pilot program! As NYLCV advocated, the program prioritizes New Yorkers who live long walking distances from the subway. (Streetsblog)
