Senator Biaggi Issues Statement in Support of Assemblymember Ron Kim.

“I stand with Assemblymember Ron Kim. Assemblymember Kim has been a north star in the fight for transparency and justice for those lost to COVID-19 in nursing homes. Governor Cuomo’s statements today about Assemblymember Kim are part of a disturbing pattern of behavior from the Governor. Instead of accepting responsibility for mistakes, the Governor has chosen to deflect blame and evade accountability time and time again. 

Governor Cuomo is choosing to attack Assemblymember Kim at the same time we are seeing a disturbing rise in anti-Asian racism and violence in our State and across the country. Choosing to single-out an Asian-American lawmaker is dangerous and could have serious consequences. Across the country, more than 2,500 anti-Asian hate incidents were recorded from March to September 2020 –– and many incidents are not reported at all. As of December, over 250 incidents were reported in New York alone. I hope to see all legislators stand behind Assemblymember Kim, and like he bravely did, resist the Governor’s threats and strong-arming.”
