BLACK HISTORY MONTH: Buel G. McQuay made Yonkers history slowly and efficiently by becoming the first and only African American Deputy Assistant Commissioner for the YFD.
YONKERS FIREFIGHTERS: Deputy Commissioner McQuay was appointed to the Yonkers Fire Department on October 1, 1954 and was assigned to Station #8 and then spent 11 years at Station #6.
McQuay was promoted to Lieutenant on May 27, 1966 and to Captain on July 9, 1979.
He was promoted to Assistant Chief on March 21, 1988 and appointed to 2nd Deputy Chief on November 1, 1990.
His last assignment was that of 1st Deputy Commissioner, a rank that he was appointed to on January 1, 1993.....
