CRICKET EXPANDING IN WESTCHESTER -GREENBURGH WAS FIRST--SPORT SO POPULAR WESTCHESTER IS NOW FUNDING A NEW FIELD In 2019 Greenburgh became the first community in Westchester to offer residents the opportunity to enjoy cricket --one of the most popular sports in the world. We created a field at Richard Presser Park in Hartsdale. It's been enormously popular. The problem: The demand is so great that we can't serve everyone who wants to use the field. I am very pleased that County Executive George Latimer and County Legislator Mary Jane Shimsky of Greenburgh have championed the cause. The 2021 county capital budget includes $1 million for a new field in Westchester. I hope that other communities will also create cricket field opportunities. A statement from Legislator Shimsky follows. I am also forwarding a link to an interview I had with some of the founders of the Greenburgh cricket field in 2019: https://www.youtube.com/watch?
