LEGISLATORS PASS MEMORIAL FIELD FINANCING MEASURE.
Vow to Complete Restoration Work on Historic Mount Vernon Facility.
White Plains, NY — On Monday, the Board of Legislators voted unanimously to approve a measure that will save taxpayers money on the financing of the restoration of Memorial Field in Mount Vernon. The measure does not change the scope of the project.
Legislator Tyrae Woodson-Samuels (D-Mount Vernon) said, "It is my personal commitment -- as well as the commitment of the County and Board of Legislators --- to do everything necessary to return Memorial Field to the grand and glorious facility I remember playing on as a Mount Vernon Razorback in my childhood. It is a privilege to pick up the ball from my predecessor, Judge Lyndon Williams, and make sure that we carry it all the way to the end zone. The people of Mount Vernon sorely need the recreational space a restored Memorial Field will provide; and all Westchester residents will benefit from the return of a world-class sports competition facility to this County."
Legislator David Tubiolo (D - Yonkers, Mount Vernon), chair of the Board's Parks and Recreation Committee, said, "I was proud to join then Legislator Williams in approving the County's commitment to rebuilding Memorial Field, and I'm proud that with this vote, all of our colleagues on the Board of Legislators re-affirmed our commitment to finishing the job and doing it in a financial prudent way."
Legislator Ruth Walter (D - Yonkers, Bronxville), co-chair of the Parks and Recreation Committee, said, "In its heyday, Memorial Field was a great place not just for the people of Mount Vernon, but for young people from all over Westchester competing in regional track and field and other sporting events. I’m so happy the County is playing a role in making it that kind special place again. The Board will continue to work to ensure the project is completed on time and on budget."
