YONKERS MAYOR SPANO TO PROVIDE SNOWSTORM PREPARATIONS BRIEFING.
Mayor to Activate Emergency Operations Center .
Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano will join members of the Department of Public Works (DPW), Parks & Recreation, Office of Emergency Management and other city officials today, December 16 at 12:30PM at the Yonkers Salt Barn (348 Tuckahoe Road) to provide a briefing on the city’s snowstorm preparations. Mayor Spano also will announce the activation of the city’s Emergency Operations Center in response to the forecasted high winds and snow accumulations.
The City of Yonkers maintains:
- 654 lane miles of roads
- 450 dead-end streets and cul-de-sacs
- 100 bridges
- 78 parks, playgrounds and facilities
- 45 sets of stairs and 4 pedestrian bridges
The City’s salt barn stores up 7,500 tons of salt. During a storm, the City applies 5,200 gallons of brine to 130 lane miles. Salt is applied at a rate of at least 200 pounds per lane mile. Yonkers DPW utilizes a fleet of 32 large plow/salters and 12 small plow/salters.
