Saw Mill River Parkway Project at Marble Ave in Mt Pleasant and Pleasantville.
The lane reductions in place on the SMRP near the Marble Avenue exit. The change in traffic will start around Monday, November 9 and last for about 8 months. The lane reduction is necessary to facilitate the the construction of two new bridge structures on the SMRP as part of NYSDOT’s D900049, Lower Westchester Bridge Bundle Design Build Project.
About the Project
- Construction of two new bridges on the Saw Mill River Parkway (SMRP) over the Saw Mill River will be elevated to meet 100-year flood projections as part of the Lower Westchester Bridge Bundle (LWBB) projects in Mount Pleasant/Pleasantville, Mount Vernon/Pelham, and Mamaroneck
- Stabilization of a 1.3-mile stretch of new roadway to divert water from the road and mitigate settling
- Drainage improvements to more efficiently convey surface water from the roadway
- Provide overall safety and operational enhancements to traffic signals, barriers, and railings
- Construction will be performed in two stages to accommodate a minimum of one lane of traffic in each direction
- LWBB Expected Overall Completion Date: Fall 2022
Why is this project needed?
- Since construction in the 1930s, this area of roadway has experienced significant settlements of up to 5 feet due to the consolidation of the soil layer in response to increased loads from traffic and roadway construction
- A roadway embankment will be constructed so that post construction settlement is limited to 2 inches over a 50-year time frame along the roadway surface
