Hudson Valley-Sept. 18...
The Police Benevolent Association of the City of New York (NYC PBA) has endorsed former two-term Westchester county executive Rob Astorino in his race for state senate in the 40th District (parts of Westchester, Putnam, and Dutchess counties) it was announced today.
The NYC PBA is the largest municipal police union in the world. It represents the approximately 24,000 sworn NYPD members who hold the rank of Police Officer.
In endorsing Mr. Astorino for state senate, NYC PBA President Pat Lynch said: “On behalf of the Police Benevolent Association of the City of New York, it is my pleasure to announce our endorsement of your candidacy for election to the New York State Senate in the 40th Senate District. Your commitment to addressing the issues affecting New York City police officers is well recognized, and it will be an honor to have you representing our members in the Senate. We look forward to working with you towards our shared goal of a stronger, safer New York.”
In addition to the NYC PBA endorsement, Mr. Astorino’s candidacy is being backed by the New York State Troopers PBA; the Dutchess County Deputy Sheriff's PBA; the NYPD Captains Endowment Association, and the NYPD Detectives PBA. Additional endorsements will follow.
“Having the endorsement of frontline NYPD officers is a tremendous honor, and I’m enormously grateful to Pat Lynch and the 24,000 active NYC PBA officers for this endorsement,” Mr. Astorino said. “New York State is witnessing a potentially disastrous return to bad times, and that can be directly linked to ill-conceived legislation in Albany, like no-cash-bail, which my opponent State Senator Peter Harckham sponsored and championed. The men and women of law enforcement work tirelessly, day and night, to keep our homes and our communities safe, and we should be saying ‘thank you for your service’ instead of making the job tougher and more dangerous for them. As state senator, I will do everything in my power to give law enforcement officials the tools they need to keep us safe.”
