Friend,
It’s hard to imagine that nearly 20 years have passed since September 11, 2001.
We remember the 2,977 innocent lives -- especially the 26 Yonkers residents who perished due to the terrorist attacks in New York City, Washington, DC, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
Let's also remember all those who lent a hand in the search and rescue efforts at Ground Zero that day and for weeks following.
I ask that we do our best to never forget the unity, compassion and call to service that we all felt those days after. Let’s treat each other like we treated strangers on September 12, 2001. Let’s send a message, that the forces of love are always stronger than the forces of hate.
It wasn’t a perfect world before September 11, 2001, and it certainly isn’t today, but we learned from it, no matter how stressful.
I know as Yonkers residents, we can rise above the rhetoric in our current state of affairs and celebrate our differences, rather than have them divide us. I know we can do that because we are #YonkersStrong!
May God bless you all and may God forever bless America
MIKE SPANO
Mayor
