FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: YONKERS OFFICE FOR THE AGING TO DISTRIBUTE FARMERS MARKET COUPONS TO YONKERS SENIORS.
YONKERS, NY – August 21, 2020 -- Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano today announced the Yonkers Office for the Aging will distribute farmers market coupons to qualified Yonkers seniors. Due to COVID-19 guidance, coupons will be distributed outside the Chema Community Center, 435 Riverdale Avenue, Monday, August 24 - Wednesday, August 26 from 9 AM to 12 PM and from 1PM to 3 PM. While waiting on line, seniors are required to wear face coverings/masks and maintain a distance of at least six feet apart.
“We encourage our seniors to make use of this money-saving service that will entice our residents to get out and shop, contribute to our local farms, while enjoying the benefits of fresh, homegrown produce and products,” said Mayor Spano.
The coupons are available to qualified applicants 60 years or older who have a monthly income of $1,968 per month or less for a one person household; $2,658 per month or less for a two person household and $3,349 per month or less for a three person household. Each older adult in a household is eligible to receive a booklet if they meet the age and income requirements.
Yonkers seniors must bring photo ID and proof of age.
While there are no open Farmers Markets in Yonkers, seniors are able to use the coupons at the farmers markets in surrounding municipalities in Westchester County. A list of farmers markets will be provided with the coupon booklet.
The Senior Farmers Market Program is funded through the Food and Nutrition Service division of the United States Department of Agriculture and Markets in cooperation with the NY State Office for the Aging, NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets and the Westchester County Department of Senior Programs and Services.
