Dear Friends and Neighbors,
I am writing to you today about an issue that is very important to me. As some of you probably know the USPS is in danger of closing post office locations, reducing services or raising their rates due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At a time when we rely on the Postal Service more than ever, I would like to share my support for Senators Schumer, Booker and Peters’ resolution urging more relief funding in the next federal package.
As Leader Schumer pointed out “The COVID-19 pandemic has made the U.S. Postal Service more essential than ever, with Americans across the country, particularly vulnerable populations like the sick and the elderly, relying on their services for packages and letters as well as ballots and medications...”
I would like to particularly highlight the importance of the USPS for voting. We must fund our Postal Service so that every citizen who wants an absentee ballot gets one and that it is returned to the Board of Elections in time to be counted. The functioning of the USPS is vital to ensuring that our democracy is able to continue to function in this pandemic and beyond. This is of great concern to me, which is why this relief package is absolutely vital.
Please take a moment to thank your local carrier and show your support by calling Senator Schumer’s office at (914) 734-1532.
