Yonkers Insider: July 27th - A Message from Your Town Council.

July 27, 2020

Dear Town of Greenburgh Residents,

This week, we bring announcements about the New York State COVID Rent Relief Program, the 2nd Greenburgh Drive-In Movie, Excess Food Act, Greenburgh Against Systemic Racism Task Force (GASR), and Reminders.
New York State COVID Rent Relief Program: APPLICATION DEADLINE - July 30, 2020.  This program is available to help households experiencing an increase in their rent burden due to a loss of income during the COVID-19 crisis.  The program will provide eligible households with a one-time rental subsidy that will be sent directly to the household’s landlord.

It is a rental assistance payment program which will cover the difference between the household’s rent burden on March 1, 2020 and the increase in rent burden for the months the household is applying for assistance.
Applications must be post marked by Thursday, July 30, 2020.
Applicants will not need to repay this assistance.
The COVID Rent Relief Program is not first-come first-served. Priority will be given to eligible households with “greatest economic and social need” accounting for income, rent burden, percent of income lost and risk of homelessness.
For more information about the program and about eligibility require and to download applications, click HERE.

Drive-In Movie: On August 1, we will be screening our second movie - Remember the Titans. There will be a charge of $20 per car.  We encourage residents to pre-register prior to the movie; same day registration will be available. Click HERE to pre-register and for more information.

Remember the Titans
The story of a newly appointed African-American football coach and his high school team in their first season as a racially integrated unit in 1970s Virginia. Based on real events, this remarkable story celebrates how a town torn apart by friction and mistrust comes together in triumphant harmony. After leading his team to fifteen winning seasons, beloved football coach Bill Yoast (Will Patton) is demoted and replaced by tough, opinionated Herman Boone (Denzel Washington). How these two men overcome their differences and turn a group of hostile young men into champions is a remarkable portrait of courage and perseverance.

Golf Lovers:
We are pleased to announce the opening of HOLE 18 at 183 Central Avenue in Hartsdale.  HOLE 18 offers avid golf players the ability to play a round of golf in under an hour. For more information, please click HERE.

Excess Food Act PASSES: The Excess Food Act amends the environmental conservation law, requiring supermarkets to make “excess food” available to qualifying entities.

As explained in the Act, the purpose is: “An estimated fifty million Americans, including nearly sixteen million children, do not have sufficient food. An estimated 2.8 million New Yorkers face hunger and food insecurity. This legislation is designed to increase food donations to food banks and other providers who feed the needy while reducing food waste in solid waste landfills which create dangerous emissions.”

Greenburgh Against Systemic Racism Task Force (GASR): In acknowledgement and response to turmoil facing this country and in New York State, Governor Cuomo issued Executive Order 203 - New York State Police Reform & Reinvention Collaborative Initiative. GASR has been established to address a key area of racial inequity, law enforcement. Although Governor’s Cuomo Executive Order only requires municipalities to examine our local police agencies, the importance of examining education, employment, healthcare and housing in addition to law enforcement is clear.

GASR’s mission is to identify and eradicate the causes and effects of systemic racism including but not limited to in education, employment, healthcare, housing, and law enforcement.

As we move forward, anyone who is interested in being a part of the Task Force, please send a letter of interest and resume to Councilwoman Gina Jackson at GJackson@GreenburghNY.com. If you wish to contribute but do not wish to serve on a committee, please also feel free to send thoughts and ideas to Councilwoman Jackson.

Remember, we cannot change yesterday, but we can and must work together for a better tomorrow.

Reminders:
Pools: We are excited to have opened the pool at Anthony F. Veteran Park, BUT we must emphasize the importance of wearing a face covering for patrons 2 years and older. It is essential.
