Dear Town of Greenburgh Residents,This week, we bring announcements of the next Drive-In Movie, Pool and Election Up-Dates, Greenburgh Against Systemic Racism Task Force (GASR), and Reminders.
Drive-In Movie: On Saturday, July 18, the Parks and Recreation Department hosted this summer’s first drive-in movie evening at Anthony F. Veteran Park. It was a huge success! On August 1, we will be screening our second movie - Remember the Titans. There will be a charge of $20 per car. We encourage residents to pre-register prior to the movie; same day registration will be available. Click here to pre-register and for more information.Remember the Titans The story of a newly appointed African-American football coach and his high school team in their first season as a racially integrated unit in 1970s Virginia. Based on real events, this remarkable story celebrates how a town torn apart by friction and mistrust comes together in triumphant harmony. After leading his team to fifteen winning seasons, beloved football coach Bill Yoast (Will Patton) is demoted and replaced by tough, opinionated Herman Boone (Denzel Washington). How these two men overcome their differences and turn a group of hostile young men into champions is a remarkable portrait of courage and perseverance. Veteran Park, BUT we must emphasize the importance of wearing a face covering for patrons 2 years and older. It is essential.
We are also excited to announce the re-opening of the TDYCC’s indoor pool beginning August 10. Click here to review the schedule.Election Up-Date: The June 23rd Democratic Primary winners for races affecting the Town of Greenburgh are as follows: US Congressional District #16 - Jamaal Bowman; US Congressional District #17 - Mondaire Jones; Westchester County District Attorney - Mimi Rocah; and NYS Assembly District #92 - Tom Abinanti.
Greenburgh Against Systemic Racism Task Force (GASR): In acknowledgement and response to turmoil facing this country and in New York State, Governor Cuomo issued Executive Order 203 - New York State Police Reform & Reinvention Collaborative Initiative. GASR has been established to address a key area of racial inequity, law enforcement. Although Governor’s Cuomo Executive Order only requires municipalities to examine our local police agencies, the importance of examining education, employment, healthcare and housing in addition to law enforcement is clear.
GASR’s mission is to identify and eradicate the causes and effects of systemic racism including but not limited to in education, employment, healthcare, housing, and law enforcement. To advance this mission, GASR has created: a Steering Committee comprised of individuals with extensive experience in the five identified areas; five individual groups to focus on the specific areas of inequality identified above; and Consultants. I, as a Greenburgh Town Councilwoman, am the designated Chairperson of the GASR Task Force.
Service on the Steering Committee is limited to seven (7) persons. In order to ensure transparency and to avoid even the appearance of impropriety and/or conflict of interest, no Town employees, appointee to another Town Board, or elected officials (other than the Chair) shall serve on the Steering Committee. Consultants are individuals such as members of the Clergy, Elected Officials, Department Heads and members of our Community. Those who wish to contribute but not wish to serve on a committee are welcome to explore serving as Consultants. Everyone is encouraged to be part of this critical task force.
Creating GASR is very important to me. I am committed to everyone who wishes to have a voice being able to serve in a capacity comfortable to her/him/them. If you are interested, please reach out to me at my email provided below.
Remember, we cannot change yesterday, but we can and must work together for a better tomorrow. Reminders:
