Yonkers,
Today we honor the 155th anniversary of Juneteenth — the commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States.
This is a day we reflect on our nation’s diverse history, celebrate the progress made, and affirms the systemic changes still needed today. Juneteenth provides an even stronger meaning this year as there is a national call for justice and to bring healing to African Americans around the world.
Here in Yonkers, our intentions are to continue to listen, reflect, and make positive and meaningful changes to increase equality and understanding for all our residents and beyond.
Sincerely,
MIKE SPANO
Mayor
