FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: CITY OF YONKERS TO LIGHT YONKERS CITY HALL CLOCK TOWER IN HONOR OF YONKERS PUBLIC SCHOOLS HIGH SCHOOL CLASSES OF 2020.
Clock Tower to be Illuminated in Each High School’s Colors, June 15-25.
YONKERS, NY – June 10, 2020 – In support of the Yonkers Public Schools graduating classes of 2020, the City of Yonkers will light its City Hall Clock Tower from June 15-25 in each of the eight high schools’ colors.
“Due to COVID-19 safety guidelines, we understand that not having a traditional graduation may be a tremendous disappointment,” said Mayor Mike Spano. “Despite this, it is important we find a way for the City of Yonkers to collectively celebrate all of Yonkers’ resilient 2020 graduating high school seniors. Yonkers will shine bright for our shining stars!”
“The District’s high school principals and their teams are working diligently to celebrate our graduates. The activities begin on June 15th during Senior Week and, currently culminate with Virtual Commencement Exercises on June 22, 23 and 24,” noted Superintendent of Schools Dr. Edwin M. Quezada. “Because of social distancing, the revelry for the accomplishments of the Class of 2020 generated new experiences that these magnificent young people will share with the next generation and their families in the years ahead. Lighting up City Hall is one more way to illuminate the grit of Yonkers students.”
“It is heartwarming for the Trustees to see how our community leaders have rallied around our graduates to celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2020,” added Board of Education President Rev. Steve Lopez.
Each night will be dedicated to a different high school, with the clock tower lights displaying the individual school’s colors:
June 15: Saunders High School (Black, White & Blue)
June 16: Gorton High School (Green & White)
June 17: Roosevelt High School-Early College Studies (Blue & White)
June 18: Yonkers Middle High School (Blue & Orange)
June 22: Yonkers Montessori Academy (Red, White & Blue)
June 23: Palisades Preparatory School (Maroon)
June 24: Riverside High School (Red)
June 25: Lincoln High School (Purple)
