Westchester County Executive George Latimer issues statement on the
25th Anniversary of the Capping of Croton Point Park.
“Today we celebrate 25 years since Croton Point Park was permanently capped, reclaimed and restored to its rightful use – a beautiful County park for all to enjoy. What is now beneath our feet is rich with history. The space was first inhabited by Lenape Native Americans, and then became a landfill covered in mounds of trash and debris. Now Croton Point Park is a year-round facility for camping, hiking, swimming and seasonal events, and a natural habitat for birds and native plants. Today, we must ensure that we will continue to be good stewards of this park, in order to preserve it and improve it for future generations.”
