Yonkers Insider: Yonkers Police Alert.

Traffic enforcement continues - Yonkers Police and partner Agencies issue 240+ summonses over Memorial Day Weekend.

This past Thursday, Friday, and Sunday, the Yonkers Police Department partnered with local law enforcement agencies once again to address numerous community complaints of speeding, aggressive driving, and excessive noise from motor vehicles and motorcycles on local roads, parkways, and highways.

Yonkers Police working in collaboration with members of the Westchester County Department of Public Safety and the New York State Police (Troop K and Troop T) issued a total of 249 summonses to violators for a multitude of offenses including speeding, loud exhaust, unlicensed operation and unregistered motor vehicles, failing to signal, lane violations, no insurance, and other equipment violations. Several arrests were made and vehicles impounded; one violator was issued a speeding summons for traveling 73 MPH in a 30 MPH zone.

Police Commissioner John J. Mueller stated, “The safety of our roads and quiet enjoyment of our residential neighborhoods remain a priority for the Yonkers Police Department. These enforcement details will continue until our message is heard loud and clear: speeding, aggressive driving, and excessively loud cars and motorcycles will not be tolerated in our City. I thank the Westchester County and New York State Police for continuing to work together to address these issues.”

These enforcement details are a direct result of community feedback and law enforcement's mission to ensure the safety of our roads and preserve the quality-of-life for our residents and will be continuing. Community members are encouraged to contact the Yonkers Police Department at (914) 377-7900 to report in-progress traffic violations; emergencies dial 9-1-1. Community members may also forward information to police@ypd.yonkersny.gov.

The Yonkers Police Department extends its gratitude to the Westchester County Department of Public Safety and the New York State Police (Troop K and Troop T) for teaming together to enhance public safety and improve the quality of life for our residents now and in the future.
