SMH.... Thursday was #LoveMyNewspaper Day As Clueless Gannett Overlords Began Swinging Its Bloody Ax At The Money Losing Journal-News
Insiders say that a Journal News marketing director and an HR Recruiter were let go and more reporters are going to be on the chopping block after the new year.
Also at Gannett's Poughkeepsie Journal the publisher, community content editor, director of sales and client operations specialist were let go as, reporters there are also headed to the unemployment line.
Overall, Gannett, slashed more than 200 jobs on Thursday in its first big downsizing since its takeover by New Media Investment Group’s GateHouse Media last month.
All of this is adding up to an awful year for staffers at At The Journal Snooze as Brian Harrod's Yonkers Newswire; Delfim Heusler's Yonkers Insider Newspaper; Hezi Aris' Yonkers Tribune and Ru Ros' Yonkers Voice Central new media outlets continue to grow at an exponential pace in #Yonkers.
Gannett, which did not change its name as a result of the merger, did not confirm the cuts. The tally was provided by a crowd-sourced spreadsheet on media website Poynter.org, which counted 204 cuts by the end of Friday across 46 daily papers,
Previously, Poynter media business analyst Rick Edmonds reported roughly 4% of the new Gannett’s 24,000 employees — about 960 — would be let go between now and February.
The “now” started Thursday. It’s not known exactly how many were cut, and the true numbers will be hard to track because some open positions simply won’t be filled at the crippled #WestchesterCounty newspaper.
All of This comes on the News Of #FIOS News shutting down three weeks ago
