YONKERS MAYOR SPANO TO UNVEIL SAW MILL RIVER DAYLIGHTING PARK’S NEW PUBLIC ART.
Mayor Mike Spano will join prominent Yonkers-based artist Katori Walker Thursday, October 3 at 3:00pm as the city celebrates the installation of new public art in the Saw Mill River Daylighting III Park on New Main Street in Yonkers.
The park now features three art installations including Walker’s Vigorizar-Daylighting III. The mural symbolizes the sun welcoming and embracing the natural habitat that is now flourishing in the Daylighted park and celebrates the life and river that flows through it. Also included in the park is Daisy Rosetti’s Fly with Me that focuses on the spirit and power of the eagle, along with the positivity and longevity of the turtles emerging from the exposed river. David Boyajian’s sculpture Flow speaks to the movement and the flowing current of the river as well as the diversity of the ecosystem along the river, while the silver oak leaves are symbols of military service, paying tribute to the Yonkers Office of Veteran Affairs, located across from the park.
The new city park’s art joins dozens of public art pieces displayed through the Yonkers Downtown and contributes to the city’s burgeoning arts scene.
