Ruth grew up in Dobbs Ferry, the youngest of eight children. She is the daughter of a political speech writer and a public school teacher. From an early age, her parents taught her the importance of public service and giving back to others. Ruth fondly remembers going to the House of Lee and shopping in Getty Square as a kid growing up in Westchester.
After graduating college in 1988, Ruth began her career as an investment analyst for a multinational investment firm. She went on to coordinate technology operations for several companies, including leading Y2K digital readiness operations for a regional department store chain, and creating the digital systems and employee training as a local shop owner.
Ruth is a 14 year resident of the district. She lives in Bronxville with her husband Kevin, their two kids, Andrew and Laura, and two shelter-dogs, Cooper and Pandy. Ruth and Kevin will celebrate their twenty-fifth anniversary this year.
Small Business Owner
Ruth and her husband run Dobbs & Bishop Fine Cheese, a mom-and-pop shop that is a vibrant part of the community and continues to thrive in the challenging retail environment.
Over the past nine years, the shop has employed more than 80 people from neighboring communities, contributed more than $5 million in economic activity, paid significant sales taxes to the county, and improved the downtown experience for all!
What are small business owners?
Innovative, hard-working,
and community-based.
Community Focused
As the Court Clerk in Bronxville, Ruth devoted herself to increasing efficiencies between the Court and the DMV. During her tenure, she cleared a large backlog due to a reporting error, creating significant revenue for the court and greatly improving response times.
Ruth currently serves as the President of the Bronxville Library Board of Trustees, is Treasurer of the Yonkers Democratic Women’s Club, Aquehung, and volunteers at many community events.
Budget Based
The most important job of a County Legislator is configuring the budget ... and Ruth knows budgets. In addition to her small business experience, Ruth understands municipal budgets and has a history of saving money. Among her successes, Ruth helped amicably negotiate a four-year contract with the library labor union.
