MAAC Announces 2019-20 Men’s Basketball Schedule.

EDISON, N.J. (Aug. 23, 2019) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has released the 2019-20 men’s basketball conference schedule.  

The league moves back to a 20-game slate, with every school playing each opponent both home and away. Conference play tips off on Friday, Jan. 3 and runs through Friday, March 6.

The 2019-20 campaign concludes with the 2020 MAAC Basketball Championships from March 10-14. Atlantic City’s historic Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall hosts the event for the first time in conference history.

The conference champion earns the league’s automatic bid to the 2020 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. Iona College looks to punch its ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth consecutive season.

Highlights of the 2019-20 schedule:

  • Manhattan College (at Canisius College), Saint Peter’s University (at Iona), Quinnipiac University (at Marist College), Fairfield University (at Niagara University) and Monmouth University (at Siena College) hit the road on opening night.
  • Rider University starts its season at home when it hosts Siena on Sunday, Jan. 5.
  • Reigning champion Iona heads to Monmouth on Sunday, Jan. 5 for a rematch of the 2019 MAAC Championship Game. The Hawks will head to New Rochelle later in the month for the second game of the series on Sunday, Jan. 26.
  • Jalen Pickett and the Saints meet Iona on Friday, Jan. 31 on the road and Wednesday, Feb. 19 at home. The 2018-19 MAAC Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Year helped lead Siena to the MAAC Championship Semifinals before falling to Iona.
  • Canisius and Niagara meet for the “Battle of the Bridge” Wednesday, Feb. 12 at Niagara and Friday, March 6 at Canisius.
  • Crosstown rivals Iona and Manhattan meet on Sunday, Feb. 2 and Friday, Feb. 14. The two schools have combined to win the last seven Championships, with Iona taking the last four.
  • The regular season closes on March 6 with Niagara at Canisius, Siena at Monmouth, Fairfield at Manhattan, Marist at Rider and Iona at Saint Peter’s.
