SHHS Summer 2019 Update.

Sacred Heart High School
July 2019
From the President's Desk
Dear Alumni and Friends of Sacred Heart High School,

Peace and all good things to you and your loved ones. Thank you for your continued interest in and support of Sacred Heart High School. It is my honor and privilege to serve the parish and the high school community alongside so many wonderful, caring, generous alumni-benefactors like you!

Recently, as we welcomed the incoming class of 2023, I asked the new freshmen and their parents if they ever heard words such as these: “Study, work hard, dream big – and one day you could be president”. I sure remember hearing those words and reading them in books as a student at Sacred Heart. Like many of my peers, I didn’t pay much attention to them. I studied, worked hard, dreamt big…and now, here I am, President of Sacred Heart High School! Perhaps it’s not the presidency that I or others had in mind or dreamt about when we were students, but it is certainly a blessing for me to be back at the Heart in this important role. The incoming Freshmen class will have the distinct honor of graduating 100 years after the founding of SHHS – and who knows, just maybe one of them will be the future president of the high school.

Like so many of you, I loved my time at Sacred Heart High School (and Grade School). The lessons I learned, in and out of the classroom, helped to guide me, inspire me, challenge me, and encourage me in countless ways. Favorite teachers, favorite subjects, special friends, wonderful memories made a lasting impact on me and supported my vocation to the priesthood as a Capuchin-Franciscan.

Walking the halls of the school, guest lecturing in some of our religion classes, celebrating Mass with faculty and students are among the highlights of my week! Watching our athletes and our actors use their talents on the field, the court and the stage, enjoying the support of family, friends and peers fills me with both humility and pride. Distributing diplomas and awards is always a special time for all of us – those receiving and those giving them.

My fellow alumni, I know that you believe in the Mission of Sacred Heart High School, as I do. While the school undergoes many changes each and every year, one thing remains constant: our mission to offer a secondary education beyond our walls, creating diverse opportunities for young men and women to realize their potential in a nurturing environment rooted in Catholic values.

May I ask you to keep all of us in your prayers in the days and weeks ahead as we prepare for a new academic year. Your prayers, your interest, your time and of course your financial support are most needed and most appreciated. If you haven’t been in the school lately, please feel free to stop by and visit. We’re always happy to welcome family home!

May God bless you and your loved ones in abundance.

Sincerely,

Fr. Robert (Bob) Abbatiello, O.F.M., Cap., Class of ‘78
President, Sacred Heart High School
