Dear Friends,
Fathers are protectors, mentors, and friends in our communities. Any man can help create a life, but today we salute those who stepped up to be caretakers, and have committed themselves to supporting the well-being of children, with and without biological ties.
Men with the strength and maturity to father our communities have always existed, even outside of the traditional family structure. Fathering has come from both biological dads, and father figures: uncles, grandfathers, ministers, mentors, community advocates and friends.
Today, I give thanks for the fathers and father figures in my life past and present. I’m grateful for the love, nurturing, faith and fortitude that helped shape me into the woman I am today. I’m thankful for a wonderful husband and partner who is a phenomenal dad to our daughter, Nia and grandpa to our grandson. I wish him and all of the fathers and father figures in our community who’ve supported and protected us all, a heartfelt Happy Father’s Day.
As you recognize the dads and dad-like figures in your lives, remember that the ultimate goal of fathering, ensuring the health and well-being of our children, to protect a generation, and prepare them for the future. The best way to honor their contributions, is by continuing their crucial work.
