News.

The WESTCHESTER BLACK POLITICAL CONFERENCE has had ample opportunities in the past few months to analyze the aims and objectives of the candidates who are running for Mayor of the City of Mount Vernon in the upcoming election.

Mount Vernon reminds us of the fictional county Wakanda from the movie the Black Panther. For those who don't know, Wakanda is a fictional African nation appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. It is the most prominent of several native African countries and home to the superhero Black Panther.

What made Wakanda unique was its Vibranium a precious metal that can only be found in the Wakandan country. The Wakandans protected this metal by any means necessary that it wouldn't fall into the hands of outsiders.

We equate this to Mount Vernon of being one of the only cities in Westchester surrounded by major highways; three metro north strain stops, a few blocks away from NYC subways. But there is a difference; the leadership has sold off what is considered our
vibranium to the highest bidder, contractors, and lobbyist that have no interest in the people of Mt. Vernon.

Democratic Nominee Clyde Isley and Democratic Candidates Shawn Patterson Howard both are back by big law firms and developers that don’t care about black and brown people and no relief on the cities tax dollars receiving tax breaks that strain the cities services for those families that need them the most.  Mount Vernon can’t afford any more political welfare politics that will sell off the value of Mount Vernon to the highest bidder.

As a city that’s recognized as a black-governed city in the state of New York, this is an embarrassment to black politics and the credibility of Blacks being able to govern in all aspects of the political process for the benefit of those who elected them in office not lobbyist and contractors that don’t live in the city.

The Westchester Black Political Conference is writing this letter in support of Andre Wallace for Mayor of Mount Vernon New York. He has always been a man of his word and is well respected by people not just in Mount Vernon but throughout Westchester County.

His honest and practical approach sets him apart from the other candidates, and his willingness to listen to people's problems is commendable.

In a time when the City of Mount Vernon’s very foundation seems to be breaking down, it is inspiring to see someone willing to roll up their sleeves and prepare to do the work necessary to make the City of Mount Vernon the best city it can be.

As a businessman and as someone experienced in government, we believe that Andre’s vision for Mount Vernon can and will eliminate much of the wasteful spending within all levels of government.

Single-handedly, Andre Wallace brought back the respect of governance and has been a great ambassador for Mount Vernon in all political levels county, state and federal.

Andre Wallace has the ability, desire and leadership skills to be the man we need for mayor of Mount Vernon and under his leadership, the city can be the standard for a well-run, fiscally responsible city.

Its the goal of the Westchester Black Political Conference to create a more equitable and secure future for Black communities in Westchester through city, town, county, state, and federal public policy. We believe, we must shift away from public policies that fuel and exacerbate racial disparities in wealth.
