CITY OF YONKERS OFFICIALS TO JOIN FAMILY WHO LOST CHILD TO ISSUE WATER SAFETY WARNINGS AFTER SPIKE IN DROWNING.

YONKERS, NY (July 3, 2019) – City of Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano and city officials will join Stew and Kim Leonard, who tragically lost their child in a pool drowning, at a press conference issuing a water safety warning on Wednesday, July 3 at 12:30 PM at the Park Hill Racquet Club, 2 Glenbrook Ave, Yonkers.
The Leonard family has raised over $3 million to promote water safety initiatives after losing their 21-month old son Stewie in a swimming pool accident.
Seventy five percent of all fatal drowning takes place in residential pools and the majority occurs between Independence Day and Labor Day. Around one in five people who die from drowning are children 14 and younger and for every child who dies from drowning, another five receive emergency department care for nonfatal submersion injuries.
