Today is Father’s Day, a day to honor the men who work so hard to care for their children and their communities.
There is no one I looked up to more than my dad.
He was a World War II hero who served in a segregated Army fighting the Nazis on the Italian Front. When he returned home, he was denied so many things. Despite these challenges and with what little opportunities he had, he worked hard to give our family the strength, security and values that we needed.
He went above and beyond to serve as an ever-present, nurturing and stabilizing force for us.
My father taught me what it truly means to put others first. He helped shape me into the person I am today.
You cannot underestimate the impact that a father can have on a child. To all the New York dads and father figures who are sharing their love, wisdom and guidance, know that you are making a tremendous difference in a child’s life. Happy Father’s Day and enjoy your weekend! Sincerely, Andrea Stewart-Cousins New York State Senator, District 35 Majority Leader and Temporary President | ||
