Dear Neighbor,
This was an eventful week both in Albany and in the 90th District. As the Assembly reconvened, I was delighted to get back to work on addressing the concerns and ideas you expressed to me in meetings, events, on the streets, and at our Town Hall.
In Albany, I was proud to join our great State Senator Shelley Mayer at her Textalyzer event. This informational roundtable exhibited ways that New York State and industry leaders are seeking ways to curb distracted driving through the implementation of technological advances which would track taps and swipes on a cellular device to record whether a driver was distracted on their phone before a crash. I also met with members from the NYS Community Equity Agenda and learned more about the statewide movement to build community wealth, divest from companies which exploit our communities for private gain, and ways in which we can promote economic investment directly to our small businesses in our communities. Although Ramadan doesn't begin until Monday May 6th, I was proud to join my colleagues in joining faith leaders in celebrating the beginning of the 9th month of the Islamic Calendar, Eid Mubarak to everyone celebrating!
In Yonkers, I attended events which reflected the inclusivity and diversity of our district. I was proud to join Mayor Mike Spano at the Cinco De Mayo Senior Dance. I also joined the Association of Hispanic Professionals at their scholarship dinner and presented citations to recipients for academic excellence. On Friday, I was proud to attend the Peace and Unity Gathering hosted by the Chabad of Yonkers to stand in solidarity with faith leaders in the face of attacks on religious freedom across our country. While these events differed in substance, they all share the common unifying theme here in our district, where we look after our neighbors and take care of our community.
With 39 bills signed into law by the Governor to date, I'm proud to be part of a legislative body determined to find common-sense reforms and laws which will make New York a better place for the residents of the 90th Assembly District, and the 19 million residents statewide who call it home.
Best,
Assemblyman Nader Sayegh
