Mount Vernon is at a critical crossroads. Political infighting and chaos within the current administration prevents the city from effectively meeting the needs of its residents. With the future of Mount Vernon on the line, it’s time to demand accountability and change. I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get it done. I’m inviting you to join me tomorrow, Wednesday, May, 15, 2019, at 7pm at Macedonia Community Center, 103 W 2nd Street, Mount Vernon, NY 10550, for a town hall discussion about the current state of our city, and more importantly real solutions for effective city governance. I’ve used my thirty years of experience in public experience as an executive and community builder to come up with a vision for Mount Vernon and a plan to transform City Hall in my first 100 days. At the top of my agenda: restoring city’s credit rating, establishing an office of constituent services to address the immediate needs of community residents, and healing the rifts between the mayor’s office, city council and the comptroller, all of which must work together to Mount Vernon to run smoothly. As a recognized leader, I’ve built my reputation on bridging gaps among diverse groups so they can effectively work together to address persistent challenges such as economic and workforce development, housing, public safety, public health, education, youth development, senior living and an array of other issues. Tomorrow, I will leverage my experience and record of success as an administrator to explain how the lack of internal controls and patterns of retaliatory behavior have rendered effective governance of Mount Vernon nearly impossible. If elected, I promise to work tirelessly to make the city a place that honors the past while innovating for the future; a city that taps the public and private sectors to help foster growth and evolution that respects its vibrant and diverse population; and a city that benefits all the people of Mount Vernon, and not simply a privileged few. Please join us tomorrow, and help us create a better Mount Vernon for all. Let’s get to work. It’s time. Sincerely, Shawyn Patterson-Howard #believeagain |
