Bring the kids, bring the family, and come out to meet your local Yonkers Police Officers and neighbors at this great community event!

National Night Out is a nationwide annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. It provides an excellent opportunity to bring Police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.

We will have four locations for our National Night Out events, one in each Precinct. 

⏰All events will take place from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM:

📍1st Precinct - Andrus Field (Central Park Avenue, south of Tuckahoe Road)

📍 2nd Precinct - Coyne Park (McLean Avenue, east of Central Park Avenue)

📍 3rd Precinct - Sullivan Oval (Bryant Road/Knollwood Road)

Each Precinct's National Night Out event is planned by the local Precinct and their respective Police Community Council members. There will be an assortment of entertainment, vendors, children's activities, food, and free handouts at each location. 

Stop by to meet and greet many of your local Police Officers and neighbors, and have a great time! This event is our largest community outreach program of the year and often draws hundreds of participants to each location!

Westchester County Legislator Democrat David Tubiolo is seeking another term on the Westchester County Board of Legislators representing the 14th County Legislative District. 

He has been a Westchester County Legislator since being elected in the August 2016 special election for the 14th District Seat. 

His opponent Michael Pineda the GOP Candidate is running for his first time for public office. He has billed himself the Anti Corruption Candidate. We look forward to hearing about the campaign platform for his campaign for Westchester County Legislator in the 14th District. 

We will be covering the race for the 14th County Legislative District Race. 

The 14th County Legislative District is in parts of Mount Vernon and Parts of Yonkers.

Yonkers Insider Report: General Election 2025: Race for Yonkers City Council President.

 

In the General Election in November it will be Yonkers City Council President Democrat Lakisha Collins Bellamy seeking a second term as Yonkers City Council President facing off against Republican and Conservative Party Candidate Dean Politopoulos and Working Families Party Candidate Angelique Lopez.

Council President Lakisha Collins Bellamy won the Democratic Party Primary in a five way race. 

Dean Politopoulos won the Republican Party Primary over Ron Schutte.

Angelique Lopez won a Working Families Party over Chuck Lesnick. 

This is Dean's first run for public office as well as Angelique Lopez as well. Council President Lakisha Collins Bellamy is seeking a second term for Yonkers City Council President in this race.

A large crowd of of politically concerned residents turned out to Van Der Donck park today, including Westchester County Legislator Ken Jenkins and State Senator Andrea Stewart Cousins. The rally was part of a nation wide protest movement themed after famed civil rights leader, John Lewis. The late Congressman is credited with the quote, " "Get in good trouble, necessary trouble, and help redeem the soul of America." The rallies across the country were part of a general protest movement against the Trump administration.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today Congressman George Latimer (NY-16) released the following statement after he voted against rescinding funding, that is already law, for public broadcasting and life-saving foreign aid:

 

“This rescissions package reflects the extreme and out-of-touch DOGE agenda. It slashes civilian aid to Ukraine and Eastern European allies, strips access to basic family planning for 48 million women worldwide and eliminates the U.S. contribution to UNICEF. It even eliminates funding for public broadcasting, jeopardizing PBS Kids, local public TV and radio, and the emergency alert systems communities rely on during natural disasters.

 

Republicans call these cuts ‘savings,’ but this is funding they voted for in the bipartisan Continuing Resolution. This isn’t about fiscal responsibility. It’s about imposing a harmful, ideological agenda at home and abroad. It is an agenda that will destroy America.”

 

The recissions bill pulls back $9 billion in funding Congress already voted on and President Trump signed into law this year. This package codifies cuts that Elon Musk and the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) recommended that will destroy the government and weaken U.S. power and standing in the world.

Senator Shelley B. Mayer Welcomes 2025 Summer Interns.

(White Plains, NY)- State Senator Shelley B. Mayer is delighted to welcome six student interns to her district office this summer. The interns are assisting Senator Mayer and her staff with constituent concerns and community events. 

Senator Mayer’s internships offer local high school and college students hands-on experience with the operations of a state government office. The interns also provide valuable insight into the day-to-day lives of young people in our community. Each intern works directly with Director of Constituent Services and Community Affairs, Christine Fils-Aimé and Constituent Services and Community Affairs Associate, Luis Ochoa. 

In the fall, the interns will continue their academic studies at their respective schools – Noah Adler, of Mamaroneck, attends the Masters School (High School); Tamar Brumberg, of White Plains, attends the University of Maryland; Matthew Loew, of West Harrison, attends George Washington University; Stacey Marcelin, of White Plains, attends Westchester Community College; Astrid Rodrigues, of Port Chester, attends Mercy University; and Isabel Xie, of Scarsdale, attends Scarsdale High School.

Mayor Spano Announces Expansion of Yonkers Office for the Aging’s Farmers Market Coupon Program — New Senior Residence Distribution Sites Added.

 

Expanded Access Supported by Family Service Society of Yonkers and Municipal Housing Authority for the City of Yonkers.

 

YONKERS, NY – July 17, 2025 – Mayor Mike Spano today announced the expansion of the Yonkers Office for the Aging’s Farmers Market Coupon Program, which now will offer greater access to eligible seniors through new distribution sites at select senior residences made possible through the support of Family Service Society of Yonkers and Municipal Housing Authority for the City of Yonkers (MHACY). Coupons also will be available for pickup at the Chema Community Center (435 Riverdale Ave.) from Monday, August 4 through Wednesday, August 6, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

 

“We encourage our seniors to make use of this money-saving service that not only entices residents to get out and shop, contribute to our local farms, and enjoy fresh, homegrown produce—but now, with expanded distribution at senior residences, even more of our older adults can benefit from this incredible program,” said Mayor Spano. “I'm thrilled we’re reaching more seniors right where they live.”

The coupons are available to qualified applicants 60 years or older that have a monthly income of $2,413 per month or less for a one-person household, $3,261 per month or less for a two-person household and $4,109 per month or less for a three-person household. Each older adult in a household is eligible to receive a booklet if they meet the age and income requirements. Yonkers seniors must bring photo ID and proof of age.

 

Additional Distribution Sites (Residents Only)

This year, the Yonkers Office for the Aging is expanding its Farmers Market Coupon Program to include additional distributions at senior residential sites, including Curran Court, Loehr Court, Walsh Homes, Kris Kristensen, John E. Flynn, Calcagno Homes, Martinelli Manor and LaMora Senior Apartments. Residents at these locations will receive advance notice of their designated distribution date and time and are expected to collect their coupons exclusively at their respective sites.

 

Yonkers Office for the Aging Director Kelly Chiarella said, “Now more than ever, our older adults need assistance with the cost of food and other necessities. This year, we will receive 1,900 coupons for distribution. These coupons offer a welcome savings on fresh fruits and vegetables—a valuable service that hundreds of residents look forward to each year.”

 

Coupons may be used in many Farmer’s Markets in Westchester County including at St. John’s Church (Getty Square) in Yonkers.

 

The Senior Farmers Market Program is funded through the Food and Nutrition Service division of the United States Department of Agriculture and Markets in cooperation with the NY State Office for the Aging, NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets and the Westchester County Department of Senior Programs and Services.
