Yonkers Roundup....
YONKERS HISTORY: One hundred years ago, Leo Baekland, a Belgium born chemist and inventor living in Yonkers, New York, created a compound out of formaldehyde and camphor, which he called “Bakelite”

PHOTO: A set of 24 Phenol formaldehyde resin (Bakelite) buttons of various shapes, sizes, and colors; colors include different shades of green, red, white, and amber; some have brass fasteners.

It was the first completely synthetic plastic, and was widely used in many products for its insulating and decorative properties. His invention marks the beginning of “the age of plastics.”

Baekland was already a rich man for the times, having collaborated on the creation of the first commercially successful photographic paper, “Velox,” which he and associates Richard Anthony and Albert Hayn sold to Eastman Kodak Co. in 1899.

He went on to get his U.S. Citizenship ten years later on Dec. 16, 1919.

He died in 1944.

At that time, it was estimated world production of Bakelite as 175,000 tons.

Today, it is no longer manufactured, having been surpassed in versatility and ease of manufacture by several of the types of plastic.

Baekland likely didn’t foresee the creation of “single use” plastics, like, plastic cutlery, grocery sacks and food containers.

Last year, the European Union banned several types of these single use plastic items.

And Yonkers City Council President Mike Khader Is in middle of the local legislative process of eliminating the use of straws in the city of hills.

Press Release: New York State Conservative Party.

CONSERVATIVE PARTY RATES 2019.

LEGISLATIVE SESSION;
THREE SENATORS AND TWO ASSEMBLYMEMBERS
 HAVE A PERFECT SCORE.

Brooklyn, NY - The Conservative Party released their ratings for the past legislative session today to keep the voters of New York informed and knowledgeable of how their state legislators voted on 25 key bills passed in the 2019 session.

Keeping with tradition, the Conservative Party tracked legislation throughout the session, issued support and opposition memos, and determined, at an executive committee meeting, which key issues would be used. The Bills considered comprise a variety of issues including, but not limited to economics, crime, health, education, and pro-life issues that affect the lives of New Yorkers. "We believe that it is necessary to keep the public informed of key votes and let the taxpayers be aware of how elected officials spend our hard-earned money. Every Bill is considered, and then we narrow the number to give voters a fair assessment of what transpires in Albany," said Gerard Kassar, State Chairman. "A review of the Bills used this year will show New Yorkers how out of touch the legislature is with the average citizen; many are costly and others will show how they help New Yorkers." said Kassar.

Senators Daphne Jordan (43rd SD), Thomas F. O'Mara (58th SD), and Robert G. Ortt (62nd SD) each scored a perfect 100%; in the Assembly, David J. DiPietro (147th AD) and Kieran Michael Lalor (105th AD) also had a perfect score of 100%.

The overall Senate ratings dropped 15% from the 2018 average of 55%, to a new low of 40%. The Senate, now under full democratic control, explains the dramatic drop. In 2018 the democratic average was 41%, this year the democratic average plummeted to 14%. Conservative endorsed legislators in the Senate averaged 86%, up from 69% in 2018. The Assembly's overall rating was 36%, down from their 2018 rating of 42%. The democrats averaged 17%, down from their 28% rating in 2018. Conservative endorsed Assembly members averaged 79%, up 1% from 2018.

We encourage voters to review the ratings and contact their legislators to remind them that conservative fiscal policy and principles make New York business friendly and encourages entrepreneurs to open businesses and most importantly to provide jobs to those who want to stay in New York State. The current rush for progressive ideology will only increase the exodus of families and further decline the opportunities that made New York the beacon to those who sought hope and prosperity.

(Ratings are online here or Click here for Senate Ratings and here for Assembly Ratings.  The short description of the bills are here.  ) If you have a problem downloading, please call 718-921-2158 or 518-356-7882 for a copy. Thank you.)

NO JUSTICE >>> Yonkers Roundup >>> KILLER GOT AWAY: Federal ICE Agents Re-Arrests Illegal Alien Charged With Gang Assault And Manslaughter, Who Was Released Into Community By The Yonkers Police Department.

YONKERS: An illegal alien from Mexico who had been previously removed twice from the United States for manslaughter and gang assault charges was released back into the public.

GANG MURDER: Feliciano Perez-Bautista, 32, was arrested by the Yonkers Police Department in July on charges of gang assault and causing serious physical injury.

He was additionally charged with manslaughter and intent to cause serious physical injury after his victim died.

ICE lodged a detainer with Yonkers police department, but the request was disregarded and Perez-Bautista was free.

Perez-Bautista and another man, Jorge Arce-Villano, 25, were arrested after authorities said that Effginio Jose Rojas, 37, succumbed to injuries resulting from an attack.

Yonkers Police responded to a parking lot at 15 Park Hill Ave. about 2 a.m. on July 8 for a reported assault and found the Rojas on the ground, unresponsive and bleeding, a YPD press release said.

Major Case Squad detectives interviewed witnesses and reviewed surveillance video, which police said led them to the suspects.

Perez-Bautista, 32, was arrested again by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in White Plains, New York, on November 26th.

ICE previously removed Perez-Bautista from the country in May 2013 and September 2014.

He is currently in ICE custody and waiting to be deported to Mexico.

Detainers are placed on aliens arrested on criminal charges for whom ICE possesses probable cause to believe that they are removable from the United States.

Immigration detainers are “to provide notice of its intent to assume custody of an individual detained in federal, state, or local custody. https://yonkersroundup.com/index.php/2019/12/04/killer-got-away-federal-ice-agents-re-arrests-illegal-alien-charged-with-gang-assault-and-manslaughter-who-was-released-into-community-by-the-yonkers-police-department/ Via Editor Brian Harrod's Hyper local Yonkers Newswire Facebook News Group ### Brian Harrod is the publisher and editor of the RoundupNewswires.com news website, which powers the hyper local Yonkers Newswire news and social media pages.
