Dear Neighbor,
Today, we honor the men and women who have sacrificed for our country, thank those serving in our armed forces, and pause from the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives.
Our City of Yonkers has always honored our patriots, especially during World War II. Our efforts during that time earned us the prestigious recognition of being the only City in New York State designated as a World War II American Heritage City.
As we come together as neighbors, and as a nation, I invite you to publicly pay homage to our veterans today at Veterans Plaza in front of Yonkers City Hall on 40 South Broadway at 11 a.m.
On this day, I think of my father, Leonard, who enlisted in the United States Marines at the age of 19. He served valiantly for three years during the Korean conflict before being honorably discharged.
To our veterans -- God bless you and your families, and thank you for your service. We salute you today and always.
MIKE SPANO
Mayor
