The brand new Justice Sonia Sotomayor Community School, located at 121 McLean Avenue, is set to open on Thursday, September 5, 2024. The City of Yonkers Traffic Engineering Department announced this week that Lawrence Street, between McLean Avenue and Van Cortlandt Park Avenue, will be converted into a one-way westbound street in order to improve traffic conditions in the vicinity of the new school. This change will go into effect on Thursday, August 22, 2024. Parking will be permitted on the south side of the street and parking will be prohibited on the north (school) side between 7AM and 4PM on school days. The change in traffic direction accommodates school buses dropping off and picking up students in the front of the school on Lawrence Street. The Justice Sonia Sotomayor Community School is the first new school built in the past 20 years, so it's a really exciting time for Yonkers, and Yonkers Public Schools in particular. The school will serve 675 students from Pre-Kindergarten to 8th grade. Best regards, Hon.
