At a recent meeting with representatives from the NYS Dept. of Transportation, Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, and our combined staff, we discussed various ways to improve safety at the Grant Street crossing of the Saw Mill River Parkway. This intersection has a history of accidents, including serious injuries to a Pleasantville driver earlier this summer.
As with other areas where we are working to improve safety on the Saw Mill, the solutions require a coordinated effort among jurisdictions. My office is currently working with the State, County, and Village to enable the installation of a red light camera at the Grant Street intersection. In the near term, NYSDOT is undertaking efforts to clear vegetation and enhance driver and pedestrian awareness, and the Village is investigating ways to improve enforcement and safety education for local residents.
